A Couple Shoot with Pizza
When Nicole Larson reached out to me this time last week and told me she wanted to do a couple photoshoot with pizza, I thought the idea was very funny and was motivated to get creative!
As soon as she proposed her idea, I could instantly picture a romantic park, sitting on a park bench, enjoying fall with a large cheese pizza. So that’s exactly what we did.
It doesn’t feel like it now, but Nicole and I actually met on the day of the photoshoot! We both attend the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, but it was a mutual friend that thought we would be a good match to make this idea a reality, and judging by the positive response we are receiving, I think our efforts were recognized!
We were laughing the entire shoot! I joked that the photos should go viral, but I don’t think either of us thought that the response would be this huge, so fast, and so positive. We were just having fun with her idea, and giving the pizza box as much character as possible. I quickly realized that the Pizza Hut brand gave her ‘partner’ an identity/face, so I made sure to keep the logo peeking out for all the shots. Turns out that Pizza Hut is now getting a lot of advertising!
Nicole’s idea was to create a parody couple photoshoot with pizza. However, her idea is actually a lot deeper than that. Before we began taking pictures, she explained that she wanted the photos to encourage a message of empowerment; to promote body positivity and of not needing a boyfriend to make you feel loved.
In an interview with the Huffington Post this week, Nicole stated, “Everyone seems to be caught up in trying to find a partner but I would just encourage others to find/do anything that might brighten their day! If that is a boyfriend, great! If it’s eating a full box of pizza to yourself, that is also great!”
I love this message and hope that people were not only able to laugh, but also see past the parody and appreciate her inspirational message.
When Nicole initially uploaded the album, her friends were extremely supportive of her idea and began to share the photos. Not long after, Nicole commented on the album exclaiming that the album had been shared 344 times! I assumed she was joking, but the next morning the internet had exploded with the sharing of the album, and we both were shocked when it hit 3.4K shares. Now at 40.1K + shares and counting, positive messages from people all over the world, and features in articles by journalists including the Huffington Post and Buzzfeed, we are both shocked and amazed by the response.
Nicole is the face of this album, the creator of the idea, and deserves every bit of the opportunities received! If the album continues to be shared, with all the support we’ve had, I think she has a great shot at being recognized by Ellen! (our favourite tv host). I’m entirely grateful that she gave me photography credit on her album, and am amazed that my name has continued to be linked to the photos. Everyone has been generous and kind, and as the articles continue to be published, Nicole’s answers are continuously becoming more and more humorous. Stay tuned for more interviews by Mrs. Hut!
Because of the amazing response we’ve had, and also because we had so much fun with this idea, we’ve been talking about creating some more photos with some hilarious ideas. We were laughing pretty hard just thinking them up! What do you think? Do you think we should create some more photos in the series? Mr. and Mrs. Hut are pretty serious after all, as Nicole says “my love for pizza is eternal..”. Let me know in the comments below!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who shared the album, commented, liked, or even just enjoyed having a good laugh about it! None of this would be possible without your support, and we both are extremely grateful. We’re off to meet for pizza with the owner of Pizza Hut Lethbridge now (Nicole’s dream of lifetime pizza is slowly becoming reality)!!
